A Research on the Effect of Integrative Art Therapy on Ego-resilience of Children from Low-income Families

Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of integrative art therapy on ego-resilience of children from low income families. The subjects, children from 8-11 years old from low income families were selected for participant of G-gu Dream start center, Seoul. Eleven children who can participate the program were assigned to the experimental group and 11 non-participant were assigned to the control group. To ameliorate the ego-resilience of children, an integrative art therapy program which consists of music therapy, art therapy, and play therapy was given to them. As a protective factor, a separate integrative art therapy program which include the mother-child group play therapy was given to their mother. These programs were executed 21 sessions for 7 days in 4 weeks. The scores of ERS & PAT were used to determine the degree of ego-resilience of children and parent's attitude respectively and the values were analyzed by independent t-test & paired t-test using SPSS 20.0 software. Then, distinctive changes of each child observed were described. As results, the ego-resilience of the children who participated in this integrative art therapy program were changed significantly, especially in family relation, self-confidence & brightness and optimism & self acception factor. Therefore, the result of this study indicates that an integrative art therapy program is an effective treatment to ameliorate the ego-resilience of children from low income families.
